  Certificate Program - Advanced ATM

  Objective

To provide a comprehensive appreciation of the role of ATM in today's networks, together with a detailed understanding of how ATM both inter works with other networks and transports non-ATM traffic.

  Prerequisites
A working knowledge of the basics of ATM. Completion of TRA's Understanding ATM course will provide students with an excellent foundation for Understanding Advanced ATM.

This advanced ATM course is designed to take students beyond a basic understanding of ATM technology to a solid understanding of the application of ATM -- a solution to major communications problems. The wide popularity of Internet technology makes it ever easier to interconnect computers over wide areas. In addition, the graphical and multimedia demands of the World Wide Web make the average size of data transfers on data networks significantly larger. Internet-based voice and video technology puts stringent Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements on the communication networks.

ATM supports these requirements for both public and private Wide Area Networks, as well as local networks. Understanding Advanced ATM helps students understand how this can be done and familiarizes them with the equipment, services and issues surrounding the implementation of ATM. Students learn the steps for success - as well as the obstacles to avoid - when launching ATM.
